Announcement: New Director of Student and Staff Formation

Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stefan Johnson as the Director of Student and Staff Formation, effective April 22, 2025.
Stefan brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served EICS since 2001. His tenure includes roles as a teacher and coordinator at Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School (ABJ), chaplain at St. Isidore Learning Centre, a Division Religious Education Consultant, Assistant Principal (Our Lady of Mount Pleasant, St. Isidore Learning Centre), Summer School Principal, and currently, Principal at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Catholic School.
Stefan's educational background is extensive, encompassing: Bachelor’s Degree in History (U of A), Bachelor of Education (U of A), Graduate Certificate in Catholic School Administration (Newman Theological College), Certificate in School Management and Leadership (Harvard Business School), Indigenous Canada Course Certificate (U of A), and Master of Religious Education (Newman Theological College).
Stefan brings forward his experiences as a Division Faith leader. His leadership in faith formation is demonstrated through his active participation in various committees, including the EICS Student and Sexuality and Gender working group, the provincial Religious Educator’s Network (REN), and the Religious and Moral Ed Council (RMEC). Currently, Stefan is serving on the EICS Faith Formation Committee and the OLPH Parish Pastoral Priorities Committee.
Stefan also demonstrates strong leadership and collaboration in curriculum, assessment, and Division programs, including French Immersion, Cogito Academy, SILC outreach, and the Chesterton Academy. His experience includes serving on the EICS Division Assessment Focus Group, leading the English Department at ABJ, serving as a past diploma marker, table lead, and Diploma Standards Confirmation Committee member (English 30-1), developing and implementing Locally Developed Courses, and working with RAP and Work Experience Programs. Currently, Stefan is serving on the EICS Wellness Committee and an Administrative Procedure Committee.
Stefan is a passionate faith leader, committed to holistic wellness and brings a strong systems approach to these areas. He is excited to step into this service role, continuing an extensive career of service in EICS. Please join us in welcoming Stefan to the Central Learning Services Leadership Team. In the transition, we are grateful and have confidence in Mrs. Ciara Smith moving into the role of Acting Principal at OLPH for the remainder of the school year.
